In my classroom I value...
Energy
Structure
Community/Communication
Energy: I know I want my class to feel exciting when appropriate as well as calming. I want my students to feel at ease and comfortable when their in the classroom. By putting their work all over, I want them to know that they are cared for and valued. In my classroom I want to make environments that inspire and promote exploratory imaginations. I hope that my students feel comfortable enough to lose themselves in a book or in their stories or in whatever they may be doing. The classroom energy will be that of beauty and respect and the students will feel that they are valued by their surroundings. A way that I want to establish a positive energy in my classroom is through music. I feel that music can inspire as well as set the tone for different moods and enhance curriculum.
Structure: I want my class to have structure but not in a way that is rigid and unbending. If something comes up I want to be spontaneous and act on it, and act on the students ideas and interests. However, I also want their to be a sense of a schedule in order for the students who truly need that structure have it and do not feel overwhelmed or lost.
Community/Communication: I want my class to be open with each-other and engage in conversation, to feel that their voices are heard and matter. I want their to be a mutual respect between me, my students and each-other to where they feel empowered and independent in their learning. By establishing a community or learners between me and my students, I want them to understand how important each of them are in the dynamic of the classroom. Through communication, the classroom responsibilities and activities will be clear. Each student will hopefully feel that their voice matters and that they are capable of making positive decisions in their education and life.
In my classroom I value many things, I found it difficult to pinpoint only three things that I valued above all. This at least is a start!
