Hello all,
This is my free blog for next week....
First off, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the zoo today. I obviously
had a totally different experience than I used to. I was a bit reluctant to be
mixing with the other cohorts but I'm really happy we did. I'm going to be
watching harry potter with cohort 3 on Tuesday at midnight...anyone care to
join...?
Second, just yesterday I recall learning that when children cry, we shouldn't
say, "Only baby's cry so stop crying" (or anything along those lines). Sadly
enough, I was walking at the zoo and that's exactly what I heard a parent say.
Without thinking I sort of just looked back at the kids/lady and she noticed so
she said something else to try and make it seem not so negative. I don't
remember exactly what it was but I just remember being baffled.
Not only today but lately I have been noticing myself being more observant
between parent/child interactions and some things I've seen just disturb the
crap out of me.
Another incident today was while watching the leopards. A little girl asked her
grandma or mom why the leopard wasn't taking a nap if it was tired. The remark
I remember hearing was rude (not that I can remember it after such a long day)
but right then my partner and I both just looked at each other. We didn't say
anything until we actually left the leopard area and started walking. He was
saying how some parents just get tired of kids sometimes and that makes sense
but freakin geez, why can't you watch what you say and the way you talk to the
kid!? The little girls question was a innocent question.
Sometimes I truly feel like parents should be required to take parenting classes
before having kids. Something, anything!
A little while ago I was watching Everybody Loves Raymond (I've been hooked on
it ever since one of my professors started showing it in class) and it was an
episode where Debra volunteers her twin boy's to be angels in the school
play....ok nevermind, don't feel like spelling it out but the point was that I
automatically caught on to Ray's language and how/what he was saying to his
kids, a was certainly a no no.
Lastly, I was talking to someone today who was telling me about a school in
Portland somewhere. It's a school that has a videogame place and kids make the
rules. They choose what they want to do. If they feel like leaving in the
middle of the class to play videogames, it's ok (I think you had to earn it).
If the kids don't like what they are learning in class, they can leave and go
to the next class. It was really extremely weird. I was wondering if anyone
knew about this type of school. I wanted to know more and I don't remember the
person's name that was telling me about this. Going off of what I heard I
didn't like the idea at all.
Anyways, those were just a few things I needed to get out of my system, I had a
few other things buzzing around me head but I'm currently at work so I lost
those few thoughts while doing 3 things at once.
See yall tomorrow.
Avni
PS Thanks Heather....=)
